Identify weak or brittle bones early before you suffer a fracture.
The panel includes:
- Deoxypyridinoline (DPD)
- Phosphorus
- Vitamin D3
- Creatinine
- Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)
- Calcium/creatinine ratio
- Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) 5b
Osteoporosis occurs when bones become brittle and fragile usually as a result of hormonal changes, calcium deficiency or vitamin D deficiency. Bone loses some of the mineral that contributes to its density and strength. Osteoporosis increases the risk of bone fractures, especially in the hips and spine. Anyone can have osteoporosis but the risk of developing the disease increases with age. The osteoporosis panel is recommended for everyone over the age of 50, or for people that have a family history of the disease.
How to prepare:
You are not required to fast but you should wait at least two hours after eating. You can drink pure drinking water (without carbonation or added flavors). Do not drink any alcoholic beverages for at least 24 hours prior to the test. For the urine test, you will need to request a sterile container with instructions, from any one of our five laboratories. You will need to collect the second urine sample of the day.
